August Macke was a famous German painter and watercolorist associated with Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) group and the Expressionist art movement. He is best known for his expressionist works and his use of color. Mini biography: Born August Robert Ludwig Macke on the 3rd of January, 1887 in Meschede, Westphalia, Germany. His mother was Maria Florentine and his father August Friedrich Hermann Macke was a builder. Macke married Elisabeth Gerhardt in 1909 and they had two children together: Walter and Wolfgang Macke. The artist died on the 26th of September, 1914 in Champagne, France at the age of 27. August Macke is buried at the Alter Friedhof, Bonn, Germany.
