J. Paul Getty was a famous American born businessman, philanthropist, billionaire and art collector. He is best known for being one of the richest men in the world. His art collection included paintings from artists like Peter Paul Rubens, Titian, Thomas Gainsborough, Rembrandt, Edgar Degas and Claude Monet. The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, California in the United States now houses the Getty art collection. The J. Paul Getty Trust is one of the largest art institutes in the world with a $7.7 billion USD endowment in 2020.

His mother was Sarah Catherine McPherson and his father George Getty was a lawyer and an oil industry entrepreneur. Getty married Jeanette Demont in 1923 and they divorced in 1926. He married his second wife Allene Ashby in 1926 and they divorced in 1928. His third wife Adolphine Helmle was married in 1928 and divorced in 1932. His fourth wife Ann Rork was married in 1932 and divorced in 1936. His fifth wife Louise Dudley Lynch was married in 1939 and divorced in 1958. The businessman and art collector died on the 6th of June, 1976 in Sutton Place near Guildford, Surrey, England, United Kingdom at the age of 83. J.
