Jacques-Louis David was a famous French painter associated with the Neoclassicism art movement. He is best known for his portraits, mythological scenes, and history paintings. Famous Jacques-Louis David artworks include “Oath of the Horatii”, “The Lictors Bring to Brutus the Bodies of His Sons”, “The Death of Socrates”, “Madame Récamier”, “Antiochus and Stratonica”, “Cupid and Psyche”, “Mars Being Disarmed by Venus and the Three Graces”, “Napoleon at the Saint-Bernard Pass”, “The Emperor Napoleon in His Study at the Tuileries”, “The Intervention of the Sabine Women”, and perhaps his most famous work “The Death of Marat”.
Mini biography: Born Jacques-Louis David on the 30th of August, 1748 in Paris, Kingdom of France. His mother was Geneviève Buron and his father Louis-Maurice David was killed in a dual when his son was a young boy. His mother then sent David to her two architect brothers to raise him. David married Marguerite Charlotte Pécoul in 1782 and they had four children: Charles Louis Jules David, François Eugène David, Laure Émilie Félicité David and Pauline Jeanne David. The artist died on the 29th of December, 1825 in Brussels, United Kingdom of the Netherlands at the age of 77. David is buried at the Brussels Cemetery in the City of Brussels in Brussels, Belgium.
