Michelangelo was a famous Italian sculptor, painter, draftsman, poet and architect of the High Renaissance in Italy. He is best known for his frescoes in the Sistine chapel and for his iconic sculptures. Mini biography: Born Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni on the 6th of March, 1475 in Caprese, Republic of Florence (Italy). His mother was Francesca di Neri del Miniato di Siena and his father Ludovico di Leonardo Buonarroti Simoni was a banker and then later a government employee. The artist died on the 18th of February, 1564 in Rome, Papal States (Italy) at the age of 88. Michelangelo is buried at the Basilica of Santa Croce, Florence, Italy.
