Raphael was a famous Italian painter, draftsman and architect of the High Renaissance in Italy. He is best known for his paintings and frescoes of religious scenes and portraits. Mini biography: Born Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino on the 6th of April, (or possibly March 28) 1483 in Urbino, Duchy of Urbino (Italy). His mother was Magia di Battista di Nicola Ciarla (she died when Raphael was 8 years old) and his father Giovanni Santi was a court painter to the duke. The artist died on the 6th of April, 1520 in Rome, Papal States (Italy) at the age of 37. Raphael is buried at the Pantheon, Rome, Italy.
