René Magritte was a famous Belgian painter associated with the Surrealism art movement. He is best known for his surreal, sometimes humorous images that place objects in weird contexts and use visual trickery. Mini biography: Born René François Ghislain Magritte on the 21st of November, 1898 in Lessines, Belgium. His mother was Régina Bertinchamps and his father Léopold Magritte was a tailor. Magritte married Georgette Berger in 1922. The artist died on the 15th of August, 1967 in Brussels, Belgium at the age of 68. René Magritte is buried at the Communal cemetery Schaerbeek, Evere, Belgium.
